First topic message reminder :

Here is a video from YT

At this point the cases in the phillipinnes "are showing symptoms of Ebola"  but it is still not confirmed either way. We should know one way or another within the next day or so.

The case in Morocco is confirmed , and they are concerned that he may have spread it to untold number of people so keep it in green.

In the USA, there are concerns in New York with 1 person being listed as a possible case which has caused alarm at 3 hospitals. There are of course at this point 2 confirmed cases that exist in the USA but they are in isolation in Atlanta Georgia.

Uk iand Italy are confirmed as cleared as tests came back negative.

As for the one in Brazil they are still in the process of confirming whether it is Ebola.

@jack
Does anyone remember polio? If I recall correctly they had to use live virus samples to vaccinate against it. Most people were ok, but some got sick.

This just in - a doctor who returned to NYC from west Africa just tested positive for Ebola. Like  cut off the flights from these nations already ! amazed

I think maybe it was the guy that lived that I heard about? Now you mention it, I seem to recall there has been research going on for quite some number of years into trying to make a vaccine.

Let's hope that this doesn't become a global pandemic like flu etc.

Well according to WHO (world health organization) it already is a pandemic and global emergency. Perhaps they know more than what they are telling people.
Not like everyone can jump on flights in suits to go inspect the situation in these countries like they can.

Interestingly, this brings me to another interesting point. It will be those who fly and vacation that will get hit first with it unless it comes in on a plague ship somewhere. Think about it for a minute. People infected fly and it gets all over the plane, then the plane gets used again. Sure could turn out to be a big mess. (its happened before, it will more than likely happen again)

Quarantines for NY and NJ!!

and so ... it begins

Alarmed by the case of an Ebola-infected New York doctor, the governors of New Jersey and New York on Friday ordered a mandatory, 21-day quarantine of all medical workers and other arriving airline passengers who have had contact with victims of the deadly disease in West Africa.
The first person to fall under the order was a health care worker returning Friday from treating Ebola patients in West Africa. By Friday evening, she had developed a fever and was being evaluated, New Jersey officials said.

The move came after a physician who returned to New York City a week ago from treating Ebola patients in Guinea fell ill with the virus. Many New Yorkers were dismayed to learn that in the days after he came home, Dr. Craig Spencer rode the subway, took a cab, went bowling, visited a coffee shop and ate at a restaurant in the city of 8 million.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the case led them to conclude that the two states need precautions more rigorous than those of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommends monitoring of exposed people for 21 days but doesn't require quarantine, in which they are kept away from others.

"It's too serious a situation to leave it to the honor system of compliance," Cuomo said.

Those who are forcibly quarantined will be confined either to their homes or, if they live in other states, to some other place, most likely a medical facility, the governors said. Those quarantined at home will receive house calls from health officials. Twenty-one days is the incubation period for the Ebola virus.

The woman who was quarantined arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport. The New Jersey Department of Health said she had no symptoms upon arrival. She was in isolation at University Hospital in Newark.
Dr. Howard Zucker, acting New York state health commissioner, said any medical personnel who have treated Ebola patients in the three Ebola-ravaged West African countries — Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia — will be automatically quarantined.

Cuomo said anyone arriving from the three countries will be questioned at the airport about their contact with Ebola sufferers.

The governors gave no estimate of how many travelers would be subject to quarantine, but Cuomo said "we're not talking about a tremendous volume of people coming in from these areas," and added that there are no plans to hire more screeners at airports.

The two states are home to Kennedy Airport and Newark Liberty in New Jersey, both major international portals.

I'm curious what the kits are supposed to contain ???

In a couple startling updates the military will be imposing mandatory quarantines on anyone doing missions in ebola affected hot zones.

Meanwhile, the secretary of state is quietly making plans to treat patients in the US.

Currently , there is one confirmed case in the US but many under quarantine (monitoring).

As there is currently no vaccine for this disease, what exactly do these 'emergency kits' consist of? - AK47's?

Sounds like it's going to be another 'nice little earner' for someone somewhere rather than make much difference

Maybe you guys think this is off-topic slightly? But why is it that we never hear what the Countries affected (or their neighbours) are doing about the problem?

Africa as a Continent, is by far the richest on the planet. Yet everytime something happens there, (and I don't mean just this ebola thing) they come with the sympathy and begging bowl to the west for financial and other help. If you ask me, the African Countries with all their wealth, (both monetary and in natural resources) should be made to contribute far more.

The Continent is blessed with most of the known oil reserves, huge reserves of timber, gas, diamonds, gold, precious stones, the list goes on and on. But what actually happens is that we get to 'pick up the bill' so to speak, so that a lot of corrupt people over their can 'keep their share'.

End of rant for today snickers

It could be the news agencies where you live are not reporting it. But to answer your question, they use the military to help control it.  Here is a post that you might find interesting

In my opinion you are totally right. If other countries help them they should pay restitution fees. They can start by selling some of their diamonds.

A quick update for our members in the Oklahoma region of the USA, the first suspected case of Ebola in Tulsa Oklahoma was negative, but the CDC is currently monitoring 2 more possible cases.

Also, yesterday in London there was a case confirmed that she has a hemorrhagic fever but they are running tests to see which one it might be. (ebola is only 1 of many)

A woman admitted to a London hospital last night is being tested for the Ebola virus, it has been confirmed. The patient has a history of travel in west Africa and is described as suffering from a "haemorrhagic fever". It is thought she presented herself to St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London, with a high temperature. A spokesperson from St George's Healthcare NHS Trust said: "A patient has been admitted to St George's Hospital with a hemorrhagic fever and is currently undergoing a series of tests,

yes I tend to agree and I like what Darklord said:

Sounds like it's going to be another 'nice little earner' for someone somewhere rather than make much difference

Now for a quick update on things, the women in London tested negative, however there are several more suspected cases in other countries. Meanwhile in Spain there are currently 7 people infected, with around 15 more under observation.
Ebola has also now made its way to the country of Mali, with over 82 confirmed cases!

For the USA, there are currently 357 people being monitored in the state of New York, while the state of Ohio is now completely clear. The state of Texas will be completely clear on Friday if no new cases show up.

Also , while most news has been focusing on the deadly Ebola virus there is also a new virus going around that is fatal. It is called H7N9 and you can read about it here

That is not all, both China, the US, and UK are building hospitals in sierra leone. I'm like really? And who is going to be stupid enough to do construction work in an infested region? oh yeah, those who have no choice and that would be those in the military.

Oh they know, but they have to follow orders.
Anyway a quick update - there are over 80 cases in the country of Sudan, and Ebola continues to affect DR Congo as well. The map is looking greener every month. However, the outbreak in DR Congo is not related to the outbreak in Western Africa, but was started when a family ate (infected) bush meat. Germany and the US continue to treat infected patients.
