1Ouch! Fears at Yellowstone on July 30th 2014, 10:24 am

There was an article posted on yahoo which has since been removed where there were fears that Yellowstone might become a little more active than usual.  Seeing that it was removed I thought I would kindly post the full article on here but to give you a greater understanding of what the article is actually talking about I've posted a little video that will give you a crash course on its background.

And now for the article :

It's like something one of those disaster movie trailers with a basso profundo voiceover: Man, or perhaps woman, on a family vacation takes in the breathtaking scope of nature found in Yellowstone National Park--only to see the earth beneath their feet violently explode. Will our hero and his or her family be swallowed in the molten horror of -- "Supervolcano"?

But this scenario isn't the stuff of Hollywood fantasy--scientists caution that there's a chance that Yellowstone could blow. (One day)

Yes, there apparently exists an underground volcano whose past eruptions -- the last one estimated at some 640,000 years ago -- have been, according to National Geographic, "a thousand times more powerful than Mount St. Helens's 1980 eruption." The super volcano lurks a few miles underground and spreads out across an area roughly the size of Los Angeles. But here's the best part: It's taking deep "breaths," as the magazine puts it, causing miles of ground around it to rise dramatically. Since 2004, researchers say that the ground above the supervolcano rose as much as 2.8 inches per year.

Now if only one of these things suddenly became fully active......

Considering the size of them it would be a global effect. Yellowstone alone covers many states in the USA.

Oh most definitely not. But if you are interested in the sizes of super volcanoes around the world [color=indigo]go to this page and scroll down. The size of each one is displayed on the left side underneath VEI. Note that super volcanoes have either a 7 or and 8.

Yellowstone is in NW Wyoming, Eastern Idaho and SW Montana. It would produce a very loud bang and wreck havoc for quite a while over everything downwind.

True, and as you can see from this post Yellowstone has a VEI of 8. If it were to ever erupt it would eject so much stuff into the air and do so much damage that it would be considered apocalyptic.

While we are on the topic of Yellowstone, I would like to share with you this article about what researchers  believe would happen if Yellowstone actually erupted.  Happy reading everyone

I think that larger planets would have larger volcanoes.  A giant planet which would have a core 100 times larger than Earth's might have some which on Earth would have a VEI between 14 and 16.

i do know of large scale atmosphere based planets which one species calls TH. and Type TE planets. TH meaning huge atmosphere planet. and TE meaning enormous atmosphere planet. these kinds of planets can support all kinds of life and even have all kinds of terrain from many types of planets. large oceans and vast continual plains are common along with desert regions and so forth. resource rich these planets can be. but usually they lack the Volcano's of normal planets. and if any do exist on them they can be larger then earth's. however rarely do Volcano's even super ones erupt on these planets. back on topic. if one goes off the results would be very devastating.
